    • Obituary in The Daily Press:

      Phyllis Jo McKim of Apple Valley died May 23, 2004, in San Diego. She was born in David City, Neb., on Nov. 28, 1930. Phyllis loved to cook at home and for church functions at Church of the Valley. She also loved to sew, needlepoint and quilt. While living in Camarillo and San Diego, Phyllis provided care for 23 foster children. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bill McKim, now living in San Diego; five children: John, Steve, Sherry, Larry and Virginia; 11 grandchildren and two sisters, Beverly and Loretta.There will be a memorial service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at Church of the Valley in Apple Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross.

      Phyllis Jo McKim, beloved wife and mother, was born in David City, Neb., on Nov. 28, 1930, and died May 23, 2004, in San Diego, Calif.

      Phyllis and her husband, Bill, were residents of Camarillo from 1963 to 1971. Phyllis was the wedding hostess and rummage sale cook at the Church of the Valley in Apple Valley. She cared for many foster children ranging in age from infants to teenagers, as well as hosting foreign exchange students from Japan.

      She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bill; five children, John, Steve, Sherry, Larry and Virginia; two sisters, Beverly and Loretta; and 11 grandchildren.

      Memorial services will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at Hanson Hall at the Church of the Valley in Apple Valley. Donations may be made on behalf of the American Red Cross.

      Met Bill at (McDonald) Douglas in Torrence where they both worked - according to Bill, a coworker set them up. Bill was an inspector of parts.

      Knew Roy Rogers and Dale Evans from church.

      According to Bill, Phyllis' brother Don first moved to CA and talked the rest of the family into coming later.

      Got married to Bill in Mexico on May 27th or May 28th 1955 and then came back to Torrence and had a ceremony on June 4th
