Charles A Hoyt is Paul's 2nd great grandfather. He was born in 1826 in New York and moved to Michigan about 1851 (he was in NY in the 1850 census and married Eliza Jane Durfee in MI in 1852). He served in the Civil War and was wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg. We know so much about him after he came to Michigan but almost nothing before that. He is listed with Ammi Hoyt and his family in the 1850 census in Charlton, Saratoga, New York and I assume this is his brother (or maybe a cousin, at least). Who are his parents and where in New York was he born?

I believe that this photo shows the descendants of John E and Elizabeth (Hornbeck) Hays. We know that the man crouching on the right is Gurden Clough, the man 2nd from the right is Vern Clough, and the 4th man from the right is Virgil Clough (Jennifer's great-grandfather). We are also fairly confident that the 2nd woman seated from the left is Gurden, Vern,and Virgil's mother Mary (Hays) Clough, one of John and Elizabeth's daughters. From what we can deduce from other photographs we have of this family and the time-frame this appears to have been taken in (late 1920s), I am fairly confident that this is the Hays family. But I would love to know who everyone else is, what the occasion was, and when this was taken.
