Notes - Darwin Lee Smith, 66, of Sanford , died Monday, June 13, 2005, at the MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland.
He was born on June 27, 1938, in Midland, to the late John E. and Hazel B. (Emery) Smith. He married the former Darlene Wasmuth on Feb. 8, 1957, in Midland. Darwin was employed as a service operator by the Dow Corning Corp., retiring in 1997. He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He also loved to collect hats.
Darwin is survived by his wife, Darlene; sons and daughter-in-law Darwin and Sue Smith and Darrell Smith, all of Midland; and daughter Debra Ecker, of Midland; his brothers, Russell Smith of Kalamazoo, Merlin Smith of Florida and Dale Smith of Midland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorline and Don Krotzer of Sanford, Pauline and Bob Johnston of Midland and Alice Strait of Midland; grandchildren Nicholas Smith, Jennifer Smith, and Matt Ecker; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in dearth by several brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be held Monday, June 20, 2005, 11 a.m. at Midland Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jim Huggard of the Church of Daniels Band officiating.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Darwin's family.
The Smith-Miner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
