  • Notes 
    • Jacob "Jake" C. Friesen was born February 4th 1881 in Jansen Nebraska. The first child to Isaac B Friesen and Catherine J Klassen.
      On November 22nd, 1903, at 22 years of age he was united in marriage to Katherine Bartel in Jansen Neb. by the Rev. Isaac Wall. Katherine Bartel was the daughter of Jacob F Bartel and Katherine Fleming. Jacob was farming in Jansen when he married, and continued farming while Katie presented him the first four of his children, Tena 1904, Lesa 1905, Andrew 1906,Esther 1909. On March 1,1910 his father Isaac purchased some land in Meade Kansas where many of the Kleine Gemeinde had settled to after leaving Jansen. Jake moved his family to Meade, and began farming the land. Nine more children were born to Jake & Katie while living in Meade, Theodore 1910,David 1912,Leonard 1914,Jacob 1915, Isaac 1917,Ruth 1919,Rachel 1920,Isabelle 1921, Edna 1922. After many hard years, Jake gave up farming and the family returned to Nebraska, settling in Fairbury in about 1923. Jake took a job on the Rock Island Railroad. The following year Katie presented him with their last child Beverly in 1924. The family remained in Fairbury until Katie's death on August 18th, 1938. After Katie's death Jake transferred to Peoria, IL until his retirement in 1945 from the Rock Island Railroad. After his retirement Jake spent his remaining years with different family members, including his brother George, until his brother's death in 1957, then went to a nursing home because of illness. He passed away on Saturday evening, May 23rd, 1959 at the Linton Nursing Home. Funeral services were held May 26th, in the Melvin Funeral Home, conducted by Minister Elmer Sedig and Minister Edward F. Stouffer. Burial was in the Reformed Mennonite Cemetery, Sterling. He is survived by 6 daughters, 5 sons, 20 grand children, 8 great grand children, 2 sisters, 4 brothers.
