Notes - Charlene M. Hollenbeck, age 92, passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living, Leawood, Kansas, on Monday, July 5th, 2010. Charlene was born on August 18th, 1918 in Sedalia, Missouri to the late Oscar and Myrtle Hofflander. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended Sweeney Grade School, Rosedale High School and Kansas City, Kansas Junior College. Charlene married Earl A. Hollenbeck on November 7th, 1948. She spent her adult working life employed by Hallmark Cards. After retirement she and Earl enjoyed traveling by car to all parts of the U.S., including Alaska, visiting friends and relatives. After Earl passed away in 1999, Charlene moved "South" to become a constant partner with her sister Maxine Renz and Maxine's family. She soon became Sis and Aunt Sis to all she met. Aunt Sis' pleasant smile, kind words, strong hand shake and bear hugs will be greatly missed. Up to the last day she had nothing but kind words and a pleasant smile to those who cared for her daily needs. She is greatly missed by her family and will always be remembered as a "Sweetheart." Charlene was preceded in death by her parents and husband Earl. She is survived by her sister, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank everyone at Sunrise Assisted Living, Leawood and Continua Hospice for making her last days comfortable and dignified. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Continua Hospice, 13002 State Line Road, Leawood, Kansas 66209. A family graveside service is planned for Saturday, July 17th at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, followed by a 12noon celebration of Aunt Sis' life at the Kenilworth Apartment's Club House, 95th and Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas. Condolences may be made at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com. Mt Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home. 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131. (816) 942-2004
