      Does anyone have knowledge of the origins etc. of the Bensons who were in Ontario/Livingston County NY in the late 1700's/ early 1800's? I would really appreciate any information you could share..

      I am researching the family of Stephen Benson, b. ca 1796 Livingston County. He appears to be connected to John Benson b. ca 1814 to Lucia and Stephen Benson who were married abt 1808.

      Both Stephen (b. 1796) and John Benson migrated to Saginaw MI. Stephen and his wife (Mary Ann Vanness (?)) were in Michigan abt. 1830 and John came later.

      Other Benson names that may be connected to this family in NY are Joseph Benson, Roland Benson, and Henry Benson.

      Stephen Benson (b.1796) had sons Daniel and Jeremiah who migrated (as did Stephen) from MI to Skagit County WA.

      Jeremiah first to Butte CA>King Co WA>Skagit Co WA>Kitsap Co WA (where he lived with daughter Hannah Benson (Mrs. Adolph) Berhens).

      Daniel first to Kankakee IL (where he married Mary Kile). He served in the Civil war in an Illinois unit and then moved to Washington..First King County then Skagit County. He served as captain on steamboats in the area and was know as "Steamboat Benson" He died in a mine accident in the Treadwell Mine in Douglas AK. He is buried in the GAR Cemetery in Seattle.

      Stephen Benson (b. 1796), his son Jeremiah Benson (who died in Brownsville, Kitsap WN) , and Jeremiah's daughter, Hannah Benson Behrens, are buried together in the Arlington WN cemetery.

      I am connted to this family through Stephen Benson's daughter, Mary, who married first Charles Wyman (Saginaw MI), second John McCormick. Mary stayed in Michigan but several of her sons migrated to Skagit County WN and one to Newberg, Oregon.

      Again, I would appreciate anything you might share regarding this family...
