SECOND WRECK VICTIM DIES Lifelong Resident Northwestern Iowa Passes Away in a hospital
Death claimed the second victim of an automobile accident near Climbing
Hill, IA, when L. L. Porter, lilfelong resident of northwestern Iowa, passed away
in the hospital Friday.
The injuries that proved fatal for Mr. Porter were suffered in an accident
Sunday when the automobile in which he was riding with William Strohbehn plunged
over an embankment near Moville, Ia, Strohebehn died Monday.
Both men had been working at the Strobehn farm and were enroute to Moville
at the time of the accident.
Mr. Porter was born in Monona County, April 22, 1856. He had been engaged
in farming throughout his life. For 15 years he lived in Luton, IA., and for the
last 15 years he had made his home in Moville.
In 1879 Mr. Porter married Angeline Benscoter of Onawa, Ia., who passed
away 25 years ago.
For many years Mr. Porter had been a member of the Methodist Church in
Luton and a member of the I.O.O.F.
Eight children survive, they include: Arthur Porter, of LeMars; Clarence
Porter, Egan, SD; Ray Porter, Kingsley, Ia.; Mrs. C. W. Ragen, Leeds; Mrs. Ray
Lander, of Moville; Mrs. Allen Talbot, Kingsley; Mrs. Herbert Quintard, Lawton,
Ia.; and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Lilian Anderson, Oregon City, Or. Mr. Porter
was also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Sarah Smothers, of Mapleton, Ia.; Mrs.
Mary Smothers, Mapleton and Mrs. Ella Dean of Onawa.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at
Climbing Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Ben Rinek, of Moville, will officiate.
Internment will be in Climbing Hill Cemetery. W. Harry Christy has charge of
funeral arrangements.
