Notes - Charles Donald (Don) Wright, Sr., age 82, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 09, 2015, surrounded by family.
Don was born December 29, 1932, in Council Bluffs, to Roy Monroe and Jesse Marie (Penney) Wright. He was united in marriage to Helen Real on October 6, 1950, at the Peace Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and tinkering among other things. He was a man’s man and was as irreverent as he was giving. If you could think it, he would try to build it, and neighborhood friends often found their way to his garage. He began his work career at the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and later became a round house foreman, moving his family to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1957. While working at CNW RR, he apprenticed as an electrician and earned his journeyman license. Driving around the Omaha area, he could point out the various buildings that he wired throughout the years and often had an amusing anecdote connected to each job. Later, he started his own electrical contracting business until retiring. In retirement, Don and Helen moved to Mesa, Ariz., and lived in a retirement community where they enjoyed meeting people from all part of the U.S. and Canada. He volunteered as the coffee group’s pastry buyer and coffee maker and enjoyed the camaraderie shared among his peers. In addition to those duties, he served as park ranger keeping an eye out in the evening for suspicious activities.
Don was preceded in death by Helen, his wife of 62 years; his parents, Roy and Jesse Marie Wright; siblings, Maxine and William Wright, Ada Real and Jane Nelson.
He is survived by his children, Daeanne (Wayne) DiCenzo and Joseph (Judy) Wright, of Council Bluffs, Charles, Jr. (Bud) (Cindy) Wright, of Logan, Iowa, Karen (Mike) Hiller, of Gilbert, Ariz., Janet (Amirali) Jabrani, of Dardenne Pairie, Mo.; and brother, Rudy (Laura) Wright, of Milledgeville, Tenn. In addition to his children, he was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Visitation on Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Private Graveside services. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project - wounded warriorproject.org. Irish Blessing: "May you get to heaven a half hour before the devil knows you’re dead."
